Price reductions in LCD monitors are likely due to the ramp up of new
seventh-generation production plants, according to a report in the
Financial Times.
"We see a strong demand [for LCDs] but the monitor side is a bit difficult,"
said Chu Woo Sik, head of investor relations at
Samsung.
But in contrast overall prices of LCD TVs and monitors have increased
slightly due to limited supply, apart from 19in monitors where there is a slight
oversupply.
The opening of new plants is leading to industry fears of a significant
oversupply next year, with a resultant fall in prices.
But some manufacturers have insisted that strong demand for LCD TVs, partly
driven by the World Cup, will ensure that prices do not fall.
The year end is also usually a period of strong seasonal demand, but analysts
said that the fall off in demand in the first few months of 2006 will lead to
bargains.
