Logitech Wireless Music System for Ipod

There have been plenty of rumours about Apple adding wireless capabilities to the Ipod, but as yet we’re still waiting.

In the meantime, those bright sparks at Logitech have come up with their own solution in the form of the new Wireless Music System for Ipod.

The marketing for the Wireless Music System focuses on the Ipod, but it will also work with any other type of mp3 player that has a standard 3.5mm audio connector or headphone socket.

The system consists of a Bluetooth transmitter unit that plugs into the headphone socket on the Ipod and a small receiver unit that connects to your speakers or music system.

When you turn the Ipod on, the transmitter beams the music from the Ipod to the receiver unit, which then feeds it straight to your speakers.

There’s a volume control on the receiver, but you use the controls on the Ipod itself to control music playback – so the Ipod is effectively turned into its own remote control unit.

The Wireless Music System works perfectly well, and we didn’t detect any degradation in the sound quality due to the wireless streaming.

However, the size of the transmitter unit means that it is best suited for use with larger Ipod models. It looks pretty odd bolted onto the slimline Ipod Nano - especially as the Nano’s headphone socket is situated on the base of the unit.

The transmitter has a rechargeable battery, but the receiver unit has to be plugged into the mains.

The Wireless Music System is a little expensive for what is - essentially a fairly simple Bluetooth device.

But if you’re looking for a quick and convenient way of hooking your Ipod (or other mp3 player) up to your existing music system then the Wireless Music System will do the trick.
