Neos Networks, the
telecommunications arm of
Scottish and Southern
Energy, is to test 40Gbit/s network technology next month with a view to
increasing the capacity of its 4,500km fibre-optic network in the UK.
The company will initially deploy 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s links to customers
using Nortel 40G/100G Adaptive Optical
Engine routers, which can scale up to deliver both 40Gbit/s and 100Gbit/s
bandwidth in the future.
Neos delivers a range of Ethernet WAN links, SDH leased lines and IP
transport to over 500 internet service providers (ISPs), large enterprise and
public sector customers in the UK, and offers co-location for hosted services.
