Ofcom has confirmed plans for the
largest radio spectrum auction in its history.
The regulator is to sell off wireless bandwidth in the range of 2010MHz to
2025MHz and 2500MHz to 2690MHz – frequencies that are ideally suited to WiMax
and 3G services.
The sale represents is expected to take place this summer. A total of 205Mhz
will be made available to interested parties.
"The release of the 2.6GHz radio spectrum will create opportunities for fresh
innovation, new services and competition for the benefit of consumers in the UK,
" said Philip Rutnam, Ofcom’s partner in charge of spectrum policy.
