AMD has introduced its latest Mobile AMD Sempron processor 3000+ designed for thin and light notebooks.
Set to go head to head with Intel's high-end Centrino CPUs, the AMD processor offers Enhanced Virus Protection designed to prevent the spread of malicious viruses when enabled by Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
It also boasts extended system battery life using AMD's PowerNow! management technology, and is compatible with wireless Lan 802.11a, b and g.
Marty Seyer, corporate vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, at AMD, said: "Along with increasing internet usage comes the potential for greater exposure to viruses, so AMD has equipped all the Mobile AMD Sempron processors with cutting-edge security for protection and peace of mind."
Notebook PCs based on the Sempron 3000+ are expected from Packard Bell and Gericom in time for the holiday shopping season. The processor is priced at $134 in 1,000-unit quantities.
