Cisco has unveiled the next phase of its so-called self-defending network security strategy. Dubbed Adaptive Threat Defense, the networking giant claimed that the programme cuts network security risks by addressing threats at multiple layers, enabling tighter control of network traffic, endpoints and applications.

The latest phase in the strategy sees the launch of 10 newly developed products, software enhancements, and new services across Cisco's security product portfolio.

"Because the network is a strategic customer asset, the protection of its business-critical applications and resources is a top priority," said Cisco president and chief executive John Chambers.

The vendor said that it will deliver on this next phase with the expansion of its product portfolio in areas, including 'Anti-X' defences such as traffic and content-oriented security services, application security, and network control and containment

Newly unveiled products include the Cisco Intrusion Prevention System 5.0, Cisco Security Agent 4.5, Cisco PIX Security Appliance Software 7.0 and Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(14)T.
