In a bid to keep Windows XP ticking over before the arrival of the delayed Longhorn operating system, Microsoft has fired up the biggest global ad campaign in the company's history.
The international effort, dubbed 'Start Something', is "one of the largest and longest marketing campaigns in the Windows brand history", according to Microsoft.
The 15-month campaign will combine global advertising, retail promotions and online activities in a bid to tout the benefits of software applications and devices that work with Windows XP.
It will showcase 13 themes spanning education, science, music, sports, family and life management, gaming, photography, cooking, travel, entertainment, work, productivity and entrepreneurship.
The marketing push will use illustrations, animation and tag lines such as 'Start something curious', 'Start discovering lost cities' and 'Start feeding your brain'.
The campaign will run in 11 countries, launching on 18 April in the US and following in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, The Netherlands and the UK.
A total of 51 television ads, 39 print ads and 250 online ads will be featured globally.
