Linux provider Red Hat and open source database developer MySQL have sealed a partnership to make life easier for users combining software from both vendors.
The companies aim to improve the performance of open source applications for high-end database applications by offering technical support to users of both Red Hat Enterprise Linux and MySQL. The pair have also promised to attack complex customer issues.
Michael Tiemann, vice president of open source affairs at Red Hat, maintained that the partnership is a logical step as the vendors already share many customers.
In addition to the combined customer service, Red Hat and MySQL will test the open source database with Red Hat's Cluster Suite and Global File System.
The file system allows for faster data transfers in and out of a database while reducing the need for redundant data copies.
In October last year Red Hat and MySQL threw their weight behind a campaign to prevent the introduction of software patents in the EU.
