The British Embassy in Berlin has launched a website for football fans planning to go to next year's World Cup finals in Germany.

The site includes phrases such as: 'Ihm war kotzübel speiübel' (He was as sick as a parrot) and 'überglücklich' (over the moon).

The website also gives travel tips, reviews of the grounds, match schedules and advice on "how to behave".

"Like England, Germany is a real footballing nation, although the Bundesliga is only about 22 years old," said Football attaché Andy Battson of the British Embassy.

"German fan culture is close to ours. We share a love of good beer as well as football, and the friendly historic rivalry between our two teams will add extra interest."

The website has a 24 page PDF of additional phrases that the culturally aware footie fan could find useful. These include:

'Entlassen den trainer' (Dismiss the manager)
'Er tunnelte den torwart' (He nutmegged the goalkeeper)
'Unfassbar wie er aus 6 Metern am Tor vorbeischiessen konnte' (Incredible how he could shoot wide from just six metres out).

It also has Gary Lineker's famous saying: "Fußball ist ein einfaches Spiel. 22 Männer rennen 90 Minuten lang einem Ball hinterher. Und am Ende gewinnen die Deutschen." ("Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.")

Germany is expecting a huge influx of tourists, including many Britons, for next year's World Cup finals. Special measures include the use of robotic security guards and the licensing of super-brothels near to the stadiums.
